Punjab farmers richer by Rs. 1,252 Cr


Chandigarh, October, 17, 2012: The Punjab Farmers are richer by Rs.  1,252.81 crore as state procured more than 27,20,352 tonnes of paddy till last evening.

The state government has mobilised the total government machinery to ensure hassle free procurement and make certain payment of produce to the farmers within 48 hours of lifting of their produce from the mandis.

A Spokesperson of the Punjab Government today said that in the Tarn Taran district  Rs 260.51 Crore Rupees has been deposited in the farmers accounts till 16 october.
District Ferozpur was on second place in payment where Rs.163.73 Crore had been deposited in the farmers accounts while District Kapurthala was third place in payment where Rs.161.27 Crore have been deposited in the farmers accounts.

He added that government agencies and private millers procured more than 2720352 tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy. Out of total procurement of 2720352   tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 2363591 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 356761 tonnes of paddy. Till October 16, PUNGRAIN procured 612830  tonnes (25.9%), MARKFED procured 530509  tonnes (22.4%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 554172 tonnes (23.4%) PSWC procured 247560  tonnes (10.5%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 246457  tonnes (10.4%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 172063  tonnes (7.3%). 

The spokesman added that District Ferozpur with 383100 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Tarn Taran  with 369155 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Jalandhar with 279724  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
