Administration is distributing free wheat to 4.54 lakh smart card holder families in the district
Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Saturday said that Punjab Government is committed to providing succor to smart card holders’ families of the district by distributing free wheat for two months in one go to them under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY).
He said that the drive has been started a few days back on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Food, Civil and Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu to give relief to 4.54 lakh Smart Card holders families of Ludhiana in the prevailing conditions arising out of Covid-19 pandemic under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna.
He said that government is duty-bound to ensure fair distribution of wheat to 17 lakh eligible beneficiaries of the district.
Meanwhile, a team of Food supply team led by DFSC Sukhwinder Singh Gill conducted inspection of the distribution in Haibowal, Kundanpuri, Lohara, Shimlapuri and Giaspura through ration depots to expedite drive so that the relief can be ensured to all the beneficiaries at the earliest.
He said that 5 kilograms of wheat per beneficiary per month for two months is being given to each smart card holder family.
He said that proper weight by depot holders is being ensured with zero tolerance towards any malpractice adding that no use of thumb machine is being made due to Corona Virus.
