Punjab Government committed to procure every single grain of farmers- Gurmeet Singh Khuddian
Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian today said that Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government was committed to ensuring smooth and hassle free procurement season in the state as any kind of problem caused by farmers during the procurement would be highly unwarranted.
Khanna (Ludhiana), October 4, 2023: Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian today said that Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government was committed to ensuring smooth and hassle free procurement season in the state as any kind of problem caused by farmers during the procurement would be highly unwarranted.
Kick-starting procurement operations at Asia's largest grain market in Khanna, the minister said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann had yesterday launched the procurement operations at Shri Chamkaur Sahib wherein he informed about elaborate arrangements made by the government at grain markets. Accompanied by Khanna MLA Tarunpreet Singh Sond, he said that the grain markets in Ludhiana district have witnessed arrival of 8352 MT paddy of which 7837 MT crop has been purchased by agencies while only 515 MT crop is due for purchase.
He stated that this year paddy crop has produced good yield along with proper colour as per specifications. He further reiterated that any kind of problem faced by farmers would be highly unwarranted as elaborate arrangements including electricity water supply, toilet blocks has been made by the government as grain markets. Special meters has been given to Mandi staff to check moisture content in the crop, he said, adding the payment would be directly credited in the bank accounts of farmers.
The minister further informed that at Khanna Mandi, Pungrain, Markfed, Warehousing Corporation and PUNSUP would be purchasing crop. He added that over 16 Lakh MT crop is expected to arrive in Ludhiana district this year.
