Punjab government committed to provide maximum benefits to slum dwellers and other residents: Ashu
Chairs meeting regarding “The Punjab Slum Dwellers (Proprietary Rights) Act 2020" and “The Punjab Management and Transfer of Municipal Properties Act 2020”
Ludhiana: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today said that the Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government is committed for providing maximum benefits to slum dwellers and other residents of the state. He said that the Punjab government has enacted “The Punjab Slum Dwellers (Proprietary Rights) Act 2020" and “The Punjab Management and Transfer of Municipal Properties Act 2020” for this purpose only.
Accompanied by MLAs Surinder Dawar and Sanjay Talwar, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, MC Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal, MC Councillor Mamta Ashu, the Cabinet Minister chaired a meeting to discuss the best ways to provide maximum benefits to the residents with the help of both these acts.
Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that to address the basic needs of the slums dwellers and to ensure holistic growth of the urban areas in the state, the Punjab government has enacted 'The Punjab Slum Dwellers (Proprietary Rights) Act, 2020. He said that the management of slums in the urban areas of the state was an area of major concern for the sustainable growth of the cities. He said the state government was committed to providing basic civic amenities and propriety rights to slum dwellers, as also to the other residents of the state.
He said that to ensure proper and effective management of properties, the Punjab government has also enacted 'The Punjab Management and Transfer of Municipal Properties Act, 2020’. He informed that the management of municipal properties is particularly significant in the changing times as various demands of all the stakeholders have to be harmoniously integrated.
Bharat Bhushan Ashu directed the officials to identify all slums in the city that would be covered under this act so that maximum benefit is provided to the residents.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included ADC (D) Sandeep Kumar, MC Joint Commissioners Swati Tiwana and Kulpreet Singh, DDLG Amit Bamby, MC Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain, besides several others.
