Punjab government to provide free coaching for higher education in schools for meritorious students

Ludhiana, January 1, 2015: The state government would now provide free coaching for higher education to all students studying in Schools for Meritorious Students. These students have already got admitted in these Schools after securing 80 percent marks in class 10th. Under this new programme, these students would be benefitted as the state government would impart them free coaching for higher education after class 12th.
As per the recommendations of a committee named "Society for Promotion Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab", which is formed by the Punjab government, tenders have been floated and proposals have been sought from leading coaching institutes of the country. The Punjab government is presently running six Schools for Meritorious Students in the state and directions regarding the same have already been conveyed to the respective Deputy Commissioners in whose district these schools are running successfully.
The students would be trained for institutes such as IIT, JEE-IIT, AIIMS, NIT, BITS Pilani, AFMC Pune, CA, Law, CLAT, besides other courses along with all medical and engineering institutes successfully running in the state.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Supreet Singh Gulati informed that the Punjab government has now decided to provide free coaching for higher education to all students studying in these schools. He said that this decision has been taken so that the students can get admission in leading institutes of the country after completing their class twelfth (senior secondary). He said that the Punjab government would now rope in private coaching institutes of repute whose experts would impart free coaching to students of these schools. He said that tenders have already been floated in this regard and very soon, coaching classes would be held 4pm to 7 pm daily. He said that at present the teachers are themselves holding coaching classes for two hours daily.
The ADC (D) said that once the tendering process completes, a formal agreement would be signed at local level between the school and the private coaching institute. He said that under this contract, it would be compulsory for the private coaching institute to take at least 50 tests of students till May 16, 2015.
Gulati said that it was the brainchild of Deputy Commissioner Rajat Agarwal that senior district administration officers should also impart training to the students during their free time. Under this programme, till date, the Deputy Commissioner Rajat Agarwal, Under Trainee IAS Dr Syed Sehrish Asghar, Additional Deputy Commissioner MC and IAS officer Ghanshyam Thori, SDM Jagraon and IAS Apneet Riyat, SDM Raikot and IAS Shena Aggarwal, IAS officer Sanyam Aggarwal, PCS officers Harjot Kaur, Anuprita Johal, Navraj Singh Brar, Kanu Thind, besides other officers, have delivered lectures to the students.
School Principal Anup Kumar Passi informed that out of 1,000 students selected under the "Udaan" project of the centre government, three students have been selected from their school. He said that under this programme, the centre government would provide free education of engineering, scholarship and one tablet each. He said that out of these three students, two are from Bathinda while one from Sri Amritsar Sahib. He said that besides this, 75 school students are also participating in the Inspire Programme going on at Gurusar Sudhar village of the district.
