Financial Assistance Under the Ashirwad Scheme
Punjab Government has allocated Rs. 12.99 crore under the Ashirwad Scheme for the financial year 2024-25. This assistance will benefit 2,549 individuals from backward classes and economically weaker sections. The financial aid, amounting to Rs. 51,000 per beneficiary, is aimed at supporting the marriages of girls from low-income families.
Enhancing the Legal Adoption Process
The Punjab Government has taken significant steps to streamline the legal adoption process for orphaned and destitute children. The state has approved 16 adoption agencies to simplify and expedite adoption procedures for prospective parents. Furthermore, 176 new positions have been created to ensure the protection of orphaned children’s rights and to make the adoption process transparent and efficient.
Old Age Pension and Financial Assistance to the Needy
Since taking office, the present Punjab Government has disbursed Rs. 16,847.83 crore in old-age pensions and other social security benefits. The Old Age Pension Scheme alone has provided Rs. 11,310.33 crore to millions of beneficiaries:
• 2022-23: Rs. 3,651.08 crore to 21.26 lakh beneficiaries
• 2023-24: Rs. 3,950.68 crore to 22.11 lakh beneficiaries
• 2024-25: Rs. 3,708.57 crore to 22.64 lakh beneficiaries
Support for Widows and Helpless Women
Additionally, the Punjab Government has provided Rs. 3,140.62 crore as financial aid to widows and destitute women:
• 2022-23: Rs. 1,013.07 crore benefiting 5.84 lakh women
• 2023-24: Rs. 1,084.92 crore benefiting 6.11 lakh women
• 2024-25: Rs. 1,042.63 crore benefiting 6.47 lakh women
