PUNJAB GOVT GEARS UP FOR DEVELOPING GREEN BELTS & PARKS IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF LUDHIANA CITY

Ludhiana, June 13, 2019: In a bid to provide a smarter look to Smart City Ludhiana, the Punjab government has geared up and would be developing green belts and parks in different parts of the city. Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu informed that the work on several green belts and parks has already started, while some projects are in pipeline.

It is pertinent to mention that some of the green belts that are to be developed are Satguru Ram Singh Park with a cost of Rs 53.18 lakh, green belt near Lodhi Club with cost of Rs 76.35 lakh, green belt near Dr Ambedkar Chowk with a cost of Rs 43.90 lakh, green belt near DAV Public School in BRS Nagar with cost of around Rs 2.5 crore, green belt on Deepak Hospital Road in Sarabha Nagar, green belt on around 6 acres land in Haibowal, green belt on around 22 acres land in Ludhiana East constituency, besides several others.

Mr Ashu informed that the main aim of developing green belts and parks in different parts of the city is to present a “smart look” to the city, besides they would also contribute in saving our environment. He said that directions have been issued to the concerned officials to ensure that maximum number of medicinal and fruit trees are planted in these green belts rather than ornamental trees.

He informed that there is no shortage of funds with the Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government in Punjab when it comes to saving our environment. Mr Ashu said that under the Mission Tandrust Punjab and to commemorate 550th Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, a total of 5,17,550 tree saplings (550 for each gram panchayat) would also be planted in all villages of Ludhiana district.

He informed that the entire process has to be carried out before the next Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and that is why, a time frame for each work has been fixed that would be followed strictly by the officers. He informed that the plantation of tree saplings would be carried from July 1-September 30, 2019. The efforts for proper maintenance of tree saplings to start from ground level from September 30, 2019 onwards.

The Cabinet Minister has urged the industrial houses, NGOs and social organisations to come forward and adopt green belts and parks in the city so that Ludhiana becomes greener.
