Ferozepur, July 2, 2013: The police claim to have solved the mystery of woman murdered during February with the arrest of two accused.

Giving the details of the cases, SSP Varinder Pal Singh said, a case was registered at police station Guruharshai against Surjit Singh, a resident of village Jalle Ke, on finding a unidentified dead body murdered and thrown in the phat river of village Jalle Ke, on February 2, 2013, which was later on identified as Gurmi Kaur of Basti Kesar Singh Wali.

For the last four months, the said accused was absconding and the police was in search of him, for which, Special Investigation Team (SIT) was also constituted, on protest by the family members and certain organisations.  In this SIT, SP (D) Raghbir Singh and DSP (D) Ajmer Singh and Inspector Kikkar Singh, in-charge CIA were nominated as team members.

During the investigation, it came on surface that to dispose off the dead body of Gurmit Kaur after her murder, Surjit Singh took the help of Babu Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Magh Singh, Dr. Gyan Singh, Rano Bai wife of Gurbachan Singh and Uma Singh.

However, the police got the success to solve the mystery of murder with the arrest of Surjit Singh Babu Singh on Makhu-Kapurthala road during the ‘nakabandi’ on July 1 and during the investigation; some surprising facts have come to notice.

SSP informed that during the preliminary enquiry, Surjit Singh informed that he knew Gurmit Kaur and his family since 2008 and during this period he developed illicit relations with her, which was objected by her family members.  In between, he managed the marriage of Gurmit Kaur in a temple with Jaswant Singh son of Bhola Singh resident of Habib Wala and later on filed a petition in the High Court so that she may not keep any relations with her parents.  For the first three years, he kept the girl at Mohali in a rented room and after that at Ferozepur but she was never allowed to meet her parents.  But for the last few months, she was pressing him to keep him as his wife, on which Surjit Singh started giving intoxicants to her and due to excessive, dose she died and thrown in the river by tiding her hands and legs and attaching a heavy stone with iron wire so that dead body may not come on the upper surface of the river and her death could also not be known to anyone.

SSP further said, the investigation is still going on and the police parties have been dispatched to arrest the remaining accused.
