PUNJAB NEWS-Instructions issued for counting and announcement of results in panchayat polls

Chandigarh, July 2, 2013: The State Election Commission has issued detailed instructions pertaining to the counting of votes and announcement of results for the Panchayat Elections to be held tomorrow.

Disclosing this here today, Shivinder Singh Brar, State Election Commissioner said that Additional Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers have been ask to strictly comply with the instructions. He said that the presiding officers under Panchayati Act-1994 would maintain the record of total ballet papers/vote polled to each Sarpanch and Panch candidate on a prescribed Performa. He said that the presiding officers deputed at each polling station would act as Assistant returning officers during the counting of votes.

He said that the instructions have been issued to all presiding officers to hand over copy of the results to the candidates after the completion of voting. He said that the Returning Officers would submit the result before the Additional Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers. Additional Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers after collecting the total result would have to submit the four hard copies of the result along with soft copy on Compact Disc  to the State Election Commission for publication in the Government gazette.
