Eminent personalities being honoured by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at Talwandi Saboo on Tuesday on the occasion of third annual foundation day function of the Guru Kashi University.

Talwandi Saboo (Bathinda), September 10, 2013: In a bid to streamline the functioning of various Universities in the state, the Punjab Government would soon set up a Regulatory Authority.

An announcement to this effect was made by the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today while presiding over the third annual foundation day function of the Guru Kashi University.  Badal said that the sole aim of their government was to impart quality education for our children, as only healthy educational system could ensure better future for our youth as well as that of our country. 

Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government, the Chief Minister said that all-out efforts had been made to impart quality education to the students at all levels in the state in general and rural sectors in particular. The government had established 9 new Universities, added Badal. Bathinda would positively become the Country’s Educational Hub in coming times with the setting up of Central University there.

Regarding the promotion of much needed skill development activities, Badal said that in future it would be made mandatory to establish a Skill Development School for all new Universities to be established in the state.

Lauding the role of Guru Kashi University, Badal said that a new era of impart quality education in this region had been initiated with the establishment of this University.

On the occasion the Chief Minister also honoured the eminent personalities for their outstanding contributions in their respective fields, included Sant Baba Sewa Singh (Khadoor Sahib Wale) for environmental protect, Vice-Chancellor  Punjab Agriculture University and renowned maize researcher Dr. Baldev Singh Maan,  Babu Singh Maan for promoting Punjabi Culture, Punjabi Singer and Film artist Harbhajan Maan and Deputy Director General Doordarshan Kendra Jalandhar Om Gouri Dutt Sharma.  On this occasion Badal also inaugurated a memorial dedicated to late Surinder Kaur Badal.

Later talking to media persons regarding the financial situation in the state, Badal categorically said that the financial situation in Punjab was far better than that of the Center. He said that the anti-people policies of the UPA government had ruined the economy of the country. He said that states should be given free hand to design their development programmes as per their requirements. He reminded that when their government had launched Atta-Daal Scheme, Congress leaders in the state had criticised them with tooth and nail but now Centre was implementing the same scheme, what to talk about Congress’s stand and political intellect.

Prominent amongst those who attended the function included Senior SAD leader Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Former Minister Jadish Singh Garcha, Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Kamal Kishor Yadav, Vice Chancellor Guru Kashi University Dr. J.S. Dhaliwal, Chairman Gurlabh Singh, Dr. Nachhattar Singh Malhi, Dr. Gurbhajan Gill and Dr. Om Parkash Sharma.
