L&T Executive Vice President SN Roy on Tuesday calls on Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in CM's office at Chandigarh on Tuesday morning.

Chandigarh, July 2, 2013: L&T Executive Vice President SN Roy today assured the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal that the first unit of 700 MW of its upcoming thermal plant at Rajpura would be made operational by December, 2013.

Roy called on the Chief Minister in his office this morning and apprised him about the latest progress of the project. He urged the Chief Minister to help the company in acquiring nearly 25 acres of land for the construction of new road from NH-1 to the site via Sarai Banjara-Chandumajra-Chak Kalan-Chak Khurd-Sural Kalan, as the existing approach road from NH-64 could not bear the load due to the heavy movement of 400 bulker’s fly ash every day.

Responding to the request of Roy, the chief minister asked him to go for acquisition of the requisite land on their own and assured him of all logistic support and cooperation thereafter for the construction of the road. Badal also agreed to the proposal for the exemption of the peak load restrictions and weekly day offs on industrial power connection granted to the L&T power plant at Rajpura.

The chief minister impressed upon Roy to execute few prestigious projects in Punjab including the construction of three jails at a cost of Rs.450 cr., sewerage projects worth Rs. 200 cr., Rs. 1452 crore robust project of the Sirhind canal lining besides four- laning of Zirakpur-Bathinda road at the cost of Rs.2100 cr., as the L&T group was internationally known for its expertise and reputation in engineering marvels. Apart from these projects, the chief minister also offered Roy to undertake the construction of the world class Rs. 250 cr. Jang-e- Azadi Memorial at Kartarpur near Jalandhar to show case the unparalleled contribution of the Punjabis in the national freedom struggle.

Badal asked his Principal Secretary to fix up meetings of Roy with the Principal Secretary Irrigation, Principal Secretary Cultural Affairs and Secretary Local Government to work out the modalities for the execution of projects offered to L&T.  The chief minister also asked Roy to visit the memorial site to comprehend the entire concept layout and plan in consultation with the member secretary of the Jang-e-Azadi foundation and managing editor Ajit group of newspapers Dr. Barjinder Singh Hamdard. Roy assured the chief minister that he would soon visit the memorial site along with a team of his top most engineers and architects to explore feasibility for the execution of this prestigious project.

Prominent amongst others who attended the meeting included principal secretary to chief minister SK Sandhu, special principal Secretaries to chief minister Gaggandip Singh Brar and KJS Cheema, secretary power Anirudh Tiwari, secretary PWD(B&R) Mr. PS Aujla besides chief executive Nabha Power Ltd Upender Singh and L&T GM JS Gill.
