Punjab Police Goes Green at Jagannath Yatra; Police Patrolmen Use Hero Cycles’ Electric Bikes to Strengthen Security
Patrol personnel use Hero Lectro E-Bike as an eco-friendly mode of transport that doesn’t compromise on speed Ludhiana, December 23, 2018: Punjab Police’s efforts to strengthen security and boost police agility at the annual Lord Jagannath Yatra got a green push today, with its personnel using Hero Cycles Electric Bike Lectro for patrol duty. Patrolmen were seen traversing the long route effortlessly on E-bikes as they worked to ensure a smooth movement for the Jagannath Yatra across the city. The Yatra at Ludhiana is the country’s second largest Jagannath Yatra after Puri in Odisha, and is attended by a huge number of people from around the state every year. It is one of the most awaited and widely attended spiritual festivals in the city and is secured by a mammoth police presence across its route. Punjab Police’s move to adopt Hero Cycles’ Lectro E-bike for use by some of its patrol personnel was aimed at sending out a positive message to promote green transport options in the city while also improving efficiency of the patrol personnel. The eco-friendly initiative by Punjab Police is part of a larger pilot project of using E bikes for patrol personnel in the city. Punjab Police has partnered Hero Cycles for the project that aims to improve actionable police presence in the city through an environmentally safe transport option. “We are very proud to partner Punjab Police in this endeavor. As a public agency responsible for the safety of citizens, Punjab Police has shown long term vision in initiating this project. It serves to raise awareness about the environmental benefits of using E bikes while also boosting the agility and effectiveness of police patrol. Police personnel using E-bikes at the prestigious and widely attended Jagannath Yatra sends out a very positive message to the public,” said Mr. Abhishek Munjal, Director, Hero Cycles. E-bikes can move at speeds of up to 25 km/hr and cover up to 25-30 kilometers without pedaling. They can allow police personnel to rush to trouble spots or emergency situations faster without leaving any carbon footprint. Hero Cycles’ Lectro is one of the most advanced E-bikes in the EPAC (Electrical Pedal Assisted Cycles) category. Lectro is fast gaining popularity among cycling enthusiasts in the country and has already gained much popularity in the European market.
