Ludhiana: Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal held a protest near Ghaas Mandi, Chaura Bazar, Ludhiana today to open Sunday’s lockdown soon. Addressing the gathering, the mandal leaders, state general secretary Sunil Mehra and others including Rohit Kapoor, Inderjit Sachdeva, Ashwini Mahajan, Sulesh Gupta, Rajiv Arora, Randeep Batra and Sandeep Jain added that there were about 50 wholesale markets of Ludhiana, including Gandhi Nagar, Akalgarh Market, Chaura Bazar, Gur Mandi, Ghumar Mandi, Model Town, Jawahar Market, AC Market, which run on Sundays only.

They strongly demanded that the Sunday’s lockdown be opened so that business could come back on its track. Condemning the policies of the state government, they said these policies were "anti-trade", which were ultimately harming the interests of the traders’ community.

They regretted that the Punjab government had not given any relief to trade and industry of the state which had suffered huge economic loss during the year 2020 and even in the current calendar year. On the other side, heavy taxes were being imposed on trade and industry, they said.

They reiterated that they would be compelled to teach a lesson to the Congress in the next assembly elections if their issues were not resolved by then.
