Punjab Ranks At Number One In Utilisation Of MPLADS Funds

Chandigarh, November 22, 2015: Punjab has been ranked first among the 36 states in the country in utilizing the Member of Parliament Local Area Development scheme (MPLADS) funds, according to the current statistics of Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MSPI).
 According to a  spokesman from the Planning Department, Punjab has been amongst first five positions in the country since 2012 and as per data on date Punjab was ranking top position.
He said that Punjab has been sanctioned Rs549.29 crore under MPLADS from the April 2007 to October 2015 for undertaking 33803 developmental works in the state. Out of the available amount 92.4% funds i.e Rs.507.60 crore have been spent so far.
He said that The Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme(MPLADS) is a pioneering scheme, which directly fulfils the requirements of the public at large in the field of infrastructure development, drinking water, education, roads, health, sanitation, etc. The scheme has been doing extremely well in creating durable community assets, he added.
