Department of History, Panjab University in collaboration with Institute of Conflict Management, New Delhi organized “Punjab Samvad” in Gandhi Bhawan, Panjab University.
Chandigarh, March 1, 2024: Department of History, Panjab University in collaboration with Institute of Conflict Management, New Delhi organized “Punjab Samvad” in Gandhi Bhawan, Panjab University.
The event began with the welcome note by Prof. Anju Suri followed by the floral and formal welcome of the guests by Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chairperson, department of History. Dr. Rajwinder Kaur, Project Coordinator (Punjab Samvad) introduced the project “Punjab Samvad”. “Punjab Samvad” is an open discussion forum regarding the working of the state, communities, economy and their collective effect on the present.
The event was followed by the lecture by Prof Kuldip Singh, Professor in G.N.D.U., Amritsar. He mentioned of the broader idea of the international debates over the conflict management including the various perspectives of Sikh Ethno-Nationalism with its different definitions varying with regions.
Prof. Amanpreet Singh Gill, GTB Khalsa College, New Delhi talked of the Punjab Question and search for Unglamorous Answers shedding light on the identity of Sikhs and their representation among the political debates and the demand of the people through different means.Chief Guest Dr. Ajay Sahni, Director Institute of Conflict Management enlightened and opened various ideas of Socialism, Capitalism in accordance with the changing dimensions of the society and their needs, demand and outcomes of the same. The concept of climate Change is also connected with the modes of production and distribution.
The guest of Honour Dr. O. P. Midha, Director, UILS, Chandigarh University opened the horizons of law and related concepts of working of the government in collaboration with the generational change through the power modes and different means. The event was followed by the question-answer session that led to discussion on various important topics related to current issues of conflict management.
The event was presided by Prof. Ronki Ram and his remarks over the various perspectives of the speakers opened the horizons of intellectual and critical analysis of the world, power politics, conflict management and especially about the Punjab State.
Prof. Priyatosh Sharma thanked formally to the speakers, guests, teachers and students from the other departments and outside the University. The event was witnessed by approximately 100 teachers and students who came from various departments and other colleges.
