Sahnewal (Ludhiana), April 24, 2025: Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian today dedicated infrastructure development projects worth Rs 11.25 lakh at two government primary schools in the Sahnewal constituency. The inaugurated projects at Government Primary School (GPS) Bhaman Kalan and GPS Gehlewal mark a significant step in the Punjab Sikhya Kranti initiative to revolutionize education across the state.
At GPS Bhaman Kalan, a new smart classroom and a boundary wall were constructed at a cost of Rs 7.50 lakh, fostering a modern and secure learning environment. Similarly, at GPS Gehlewal, a new boundary wall, built for Rs 3.75 lakh, ensures enhanced safety for students.
Addressing the inauguration ceremonies, Minister Mundian emphasized that under Punjab Sikhya Kranti initiative, an investment of Rs 2,000 crores is being spent for the transformation of the schools. The initiative focuses on upgrading school infrastructure, including modern school buildings, smart classrooms, updated furniture, state-of-the-art laboratories, secure boundary walls, clean drinking water facilities, and well-equipped libraries.
Mundian reiterated the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) 2022 election promise to overhaul Punjab’s education and health sectors, stating, “We pledged to provide world-class infrastructure, recruit skilled professionals, and offer top-tier training. Today, we are delivering on that commitment.” He also highlighted that 56,700 government jobs have been awarded transparently, ensuring merit-based opportunities.
Punjab’s 20,000 government schools serve approximately 28 lakh students, many of whom previously studied in substandard conditions. Over the past three years, the Punjab government has made significant strides, including providing Wi-Fi connectivity to 17,000 schools to enable digital learning and recruiting new teachers to ensure quality education. Additionally, 234 principals have been trained in Singapore, 144 primary school teachers and headmasters in Finland, with 72 more undergoing advanced training, and 150 principals and headmasters have completed training at IIM Ahmedabad. The transformation of government schools has led to over 9,000 students shifting from private to government schools this year, reflecting growing trust in the public education system.
