Chandigarh, April 16, 2018: State Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in public life has been able to nab 13 officials red handed accepting bribes in 11 different trap cases during the last month which includes 3 police personnel, 2 revenue officials and 8 belonging to other departments.

Disclosing this, chief director-cum-ADGP vigilance bureau Punjab B.K. Uppal said the VB has put up its best efforts to stamp out corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the period. In this direction, the vigilance officers have ensured that suspect did not escape judicial punishment in the various courts in the State, he added.

He informed that the bureau had submitted challans of 12 vigilance cases in various special courts in March. Apart from this, six vigilance enquires have also been registered to probe into the allegations against public servants. The VB has also registered two cases on the basis of vigilance inquiries and register a disproportionate assets case.

Giving more details, he informed that special court Bathinda has decided two bribery cases filed and contested by the bureau during last month. Labh Singh Junior Engineer of PSPCL Bareta, Mansa was convicted and sentenced with 1 year imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000 and Rajinder Kumar, Lineman in PSPCL Sub-Division commercial-2, Bathinda was sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 10,000.
