Dharamsala, March 22, 2013: “The runners up team of Himachal Police in the Hand Ball event in National Police Games at Dharamsala shall get one rank promotion in their service,” said chief minister Himachal Pradesh Virbhadra Singh in the closing ceremony of the games here on Friday.

He also announced a special aid of Rs 50 lakh for state police for the uplift of the sports. He said that the amount of the Parshuram Award, the highest sports award in Himachal has been doubled from fifty thousand to one lakh rupees. He said that his government is taking special care of the sportsmen in the state by announcing the schemes to provide necessary infra structure and facilities for every discipline.

He said, “Himachal is proud to have Vijay Kumar, shooter from Hamirpur, who brought laurel to the state by winning silver medal in London Olympics.”

He gave away the prizes to the winning teams in the 61st National Police Games (Volley Ball cluster) organised here from March 18-22. Over 1,700 sportsperson participated from 32 teams.
