Punjab’s War Against Drugs: Massive Anti-Drug Campaign Led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Gains Momentum
A Comprehensive Crackdown on Drug Smuggling, Awareness Campaigns, and Rehabilitation Efforts for a Drug-Free Punjab

The Punjab Government, under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, is making commendable efforts in tackling the drug menace through a massive anti-drug campaign across the state.
Launch of 'Yudh Nashian Virudh'
Titled "Yudh Nashian Virudh," the campaign was launched 12 days ago under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann. Since its initiation, the campaign has garnered widespread appreciation for its focused and result-oriented approach. The people of Punjab are now discussing the campaign positively, highlighting its potential to create a lasting impact. Prior to this initiative, drug abuse had severely affected numerous households in Punjab, causing immense suffering. The issue had grown to the extent of being likened to cancer.
The people of Punjab now have high hopes for the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government, expecting their state—known for its rich culture and heritage—to shed the negative perception associated with the label "Udta Punjab", a reference popularised by Hindi cinema. With consistent efforts, Punjab is on the path to reclaiming its reputation as a vibrant and thriving state.
Crackdown on Drug Smugglers
As part of the ongoing anti-drug drive, the Punjab government has made remarkable progress. Since March 1, a total of 1,163 NDPS cases have been registered, leading to the arrest of 1,615 drug peddlers and smugglers, who are now behind bars. Additionally, 21 smugglers sustained injuries in incidents where the police took retaliatory action in self-defense. These measures highlight the government's strong resolve to dismantle the drug trade and hold offenders accountable.
Seizure of Illegal Properties and Drug Money
In a significant move, the government has demolished 27 illegal properties, including lavish mansions built by drug smugglers on government land. This sends a clear message that the proceeds of crime will not be tolerated. Furthermore, enforcement agencies have successfully seized 1,115 kilograms of narcotics, approximately 7 lakh pills and capsules, and ₹60 lakh in drug-related money. These achievements underscore the government's commitment to eliminating drugs from Punjab.
Mass Awareness and Rehabilitation Efforts
Additionally, 115 mass awareness campaigns have been organized in collaboration with civil society groups, schools, and NGOs to educate youth about the dangers of drug abuse. De-addiction and rehabilitation centers are operational, treating drug users as patients rather than criminals, aiding their reintegration into society.
A 360-Degree Strategy for a Drug-Free Punjab
The government’s comprehensive 360-degree strategy combines strict enforcement with awareness and rehabilitation efforts. On one front, law enforcement agencies are taking stringent actions against smugglers and peddlers, while on the other, awareness campaigns in educational institutions are educating youngsters. De-addiction centers are also playing a crucial role in providing support to individuals willing to quit drugs.
Public Support: A Key Factor in Success
The progress achieved so far reflects strong public support; such success would not have been possible without the collective efforts of society. The people of Punjab are realising that combating the drug menace is not solely the government's responsibility but requires a united societal effort. However, continued public support remains crucial for the complete eradication of this issue.
Appeal to Citizens for Cooperation
Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann has already urged citizens to share information regarding drug smugglers involved in this heinous crime, assuring that strict action will be taken against them. He emphasised that properties acquired through drug money are being demolished or confiscated as part of the government's large-scale crackdown. He reaffirmed that the drive against drugs will persist until every trace of this menace is eliminated from the state.
