PU’s Sanskrit department celebrated Svatantrata Utsav
Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies and Sanskrit Department of the Panjab University, organised various events under the title ‘Svatantrata Utsav’, today. The events included poetry recitation, discussion and art presentation. Faculty members, research scholars and students of the department and the chair participated in the event.
Chandigarh, August 14, 2023: Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies and Sanskrit Department of the Panjab University, organised various events under the title ‘Svatantrata Utsav’, today. The events included poetry recitation, discussion and art presentation. Faculty members, research scholars and students of the department and the chair participated in the event.
In his speech, academic incharge of the department Prof. Virendra Kumar Alankar informed the audience about the meaning of the word Svatantrata from the point of view of Sanskrit. He said, “Svatantrata also means the expansion of Sva, which means the expansion of one’s language, culture, civilisation and knowledge.” He added that without discipline, the fruit of independence cannot be savoured, and hence everyone should lead a disciplined life.
Faculty members Dr. Shivaji Pandey, Dr. Vikram, Dr. Satyan and Shri Vijay Bharadwaj gave speeches and presentations on the occasion. Research scholars Gurjeet and Babbu Ram presented poem and speech respectively. Students of the MA Vasundhra, Priyanka, Shivani and Abhishek recited poems. Yashashree presented a song, while Priyanshu presented a Rangoli.
