PU’s Sanskrit department & Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies celebrated Hindi Divas
Sanskrit department and Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies of the Panjab University celebrated Hindi Divas today.
Chandigarh, September 14, 2023: Sanskrit department and Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies of the Panjab University celebrated Hindi Divas today. Teachers, research scholars and students of the dept. and chair participated in the event. In his speech, Academic Incharge of the department Prof. V. K. Alankar reminded the audience of the close relationship between Sanskrit and Hindi. He told, “although Hindi literature was being produced since long, it was after Swami Dayanand Saraswati put Hindi to use in his works and sermons that the current form of Hindi started to emerge.” Remembering the legendary Ramanand Sagar, who was a gold medallist in MA Sanskrit from the Panjab University of Lahore, Prof. said, “it was through the Hindi serial Ramayan, directed by Ramanand Sagar, that Hindi got popularised across the country.” He added that in a way, it was through translated versions of two Sanskrit epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, that people across linguistic divisions started to become acquainted with Hindi.
Dr. Vikram, faculty member of the dept., recited his Hindi poems. Other faculty members Dr. Satyan Sharma and Dr. Vijay Bharadwaj delivered brief speeches on the subject. Research scholar Anshul Chaudhary delivered a speech. Students of the department Sunil, Shivani, Smriti and Mamta recited poems, while Abhishek delivered a short speech. Another student Vasundhra managed the stage.
