PU’s Sanskrit department organises special lecture and cleanliness drive ‘Jan Bhagidari’ event organised during India’s G-20 presidency
Sanskrit department and Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies of the Panjab University organised a ‘Jan Bhagidari’ event during India’s G-20 presidency. Under the event, a special lecture was given by Prof. V. K. Alankar, Academic Incharge of the Sanskrit department titled ‘svasthasya svaasthya parirakshanam’. Along with this, a cleanliness drive was organised in the department.
Chandigarh, July 25, 2023: Sanskrit department and Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies of the Panjab University organised a ‘Jan Bhagidari’ event during India’s G-20 presidency. Under the event, a special lecture was given by Prof. V. K. Alankar, Academic Incharge of the Sanskrit department titled ‘svasthasya svaasthya parirakshanam’. Along with this, a cleanliness drive was organised in the department.
In his lecture, Prof. V. K. Alankar said, “in Ayurveda, health is not just about getting rid of a disease, but also about maintaining health of an already healthy person.” He said that cleanliness has been and still is a part of the religious practices like yajna and puja, where attention is paid to maintaining utmost cleanliness. “Such practices motivate individuals in maintaining inner or mental cleanliness”, added Prof. Alankar. He shared his experience as a student of Gurukul system of education, where it was the students who maintained cleanliness in the premises of the Gurukul. Prof. also shared his experience regarding the positive results of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of the government of India.
Faculty member Dr. Satyan Sharma told that internal and external cleanliness is the backbone of Dharma. Another faculty member Dr. Vikram emphasised on reducing the use of plastic and increasing individual participation in maintaining cleanliness.
Vijay Bhardwaj, faculty member at the department gave vote of thanks to the Academic Incharge, faculty members, research scholars and students for participating in the event. Students of MA Madhvi, Yashashree and Vaishno gave short speeches, while Mamta and Vasundhra recited poems. Research scholar Gurjeet gave a short speech. All staff members, research scholars and students of MA actively participated in the cleanliness drive at the department of Sanskrit.
