Rahul Gandhi to meet Punjab Ex-servicemen on Feb 24 at Chandigarh

Chandigarh, February 21, 2014: AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi will visit Chandigarh on February 24 to meet Ex-servicemen of Punjab.
PPCC President Partap Singh Bajwa in a statement said that this was first visit of Gandhi after UPA Government at the Centre implemented 'One rank-One pension' rule for army men. The Ex-servicemen would express gratitude to the Congress Vice president for getting their long standing demand accepted. He said that PPCC on behalf of ex-servicemen had requested Gandhi to visit Punjab and interact with the ex-servicemen. The ex-servicemen from all the districts of Punjab would attend the meet and share dinner with Gandhi.
Bajwa said that Punjab was biggest beneficiary of One rank one pension scheme since maximum number of ex-servicemen lives in this state. There are total 14 lakh retired and 25 lakh serving ex-servicemen in India who will get benefits of scheme, he added.
Bajwa said that Rahul Gandhi took personal interest in this issue and persuaded the UPA Government to implement the one rank one pension rule. He said that he as a president of PPCC met Gandhi in Delhi two days before announcement was made and also took with him the demand when Gandhi visited Sangrur in May 2013. He said that UPA government has also accepted the demand of central employees to set up 6th pay commission.
