Ferozepur, December 1, 2012: The Excise and Taxation Department officials late night raided at the railway station, Ferozepur Cantt and seized number of goods bundles in its possession which have been brought through Mumbai-Ferozepur Janta Express allegedly without bills and details of consigner and the consignee, in connivance with the railway officials.
In the past, the Excise and Taxation Department had seized number of bundles during its raids valuing lakhs of rupees from the railway station which have been dispatched through the railways without booking.
Recently, the excise department got the success in confiscating 254 bundles from the Ferozepur Cantt railway station in wee hours on Diwali day, which were dramatically not unloaded and the train coaches were moved to the washing line.
ETO Jaspal Singh and Manjit Singh said, this campaign of raiding has been started as per directions of the senior officers of the department and alleged for manhandling with the raiding team, by the railway officials.
While talking to Inderjit Singh Sandhu, ETO, he opined that VAT Check Posts at Ferozepur like that already working at Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar should be opened to check the theft of VAT which would increase in collection of revenue.
