Jaipur, Jan 13 (IANS) Three persons have been killed, and two others injured following a collision between a bus and a Bolero car in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, an official said on Monday.
The deceased included three individuals, including a husband and wife who were traveling in a jeep.
They died on the spot.
Two women sustained serious injuries in the crash. The family was en-route to Punjab to attend a mourning ceremony.
The collision was reported due to dense fog, which reduced visibility on the road. The impact caused a traffic jam in the area.
Police arrived promptly, cleared the vehicles to the roadside, and rushed the injured to the hospital.
The deceased were transported to the government hospital mortuary in Padampur. The roadways bus had departed from Sri Ganganagar at 7 a.m., heading towards Bikaner.
Around 8 a.m., it collided with a jeep which was traveling from a Rajasthan village toward Punjab.
The severity of the collision caused a loud explosion, leaving the front portion of the jeep completely wrecked.
Hearing the noise, nearby field workers rushed to the scene to rescue the injured.
Tragically, three occupants of the jeep had already died by the time help arrived.
Initial investigations revealed that the jeep driver attempted to overtake a tractor-trolley ahead of them but collided head-on with the oncoming bus.
The bus passengers, apart from a young girl who suffered a minor injury, escaped unscathed.
However, the condition of the two injured women in the jeep remains critical, and they have been referred to a higher medical center for treatment.
The victims were identified as Badal Singh (45), his wife Swarnjit Kaur (44), and Badal Singh's brother Gurcharan Singh (50), all residents of a village in Rajasthan.
The injured women, Paramjit Kaur and Karamjit Kaur, were also part of the same family.
The tragic accident occurred while the family was traveling to Punjab for a mourning ceremony.
Padampur SHO Surendra Rana and his team are conducting further investigations.
The loss of life in this accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by poor visibility and the need for cautious driving during foggy conditions.
