RAKHRA instructs for candid auction of cattle fairs

Chandigarh, March 10, 2013: Surjit Singh Rakhra, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats today issued instructions for the officers concerned for executing auction of 19 cattle fairs in the state candidly and in transparent manner.

The auction is scheduled for March 22 at Vikas Bhawan, Mohali. He said that there would only be state level auction for all the cattle fairs in the state.

In a press communiqué the minister said that in order to promote the auxiliary professions related to the agriculture, the Punjab government conduct 19 cattle fairs at the different places of the state. He said that the department has fixed a reserve price of Rs 32 crore for auction in the financial year 2013-14, from the auction of these 19 cattle fairs. “The department has earned a revenue of Rs 31.8 crore from the auction in the current financial year 2012-13, and the department is now striving to increase the revenue from the auction ,which would be executed in transparent manner”, the minister added.

Rakhra further said that the whole auction process would be videographed with foolproof security at the auction site. He said that all the preliminary arrangements for the auction process have been completed and every facility would be given to the bidders. The minister said that the 25 percent of the accumulated earnest money, which would be to the tune of 8 crore, has been reserved as security. The successful bidders would have to deposit 25 percent of the bid price that is 8 crore after the completion of the auction.

“The contract for the auction would be between bidder and director Rural Development and Panchayats”, the minister added.
