Ramgarhia Girls College celebrates lohri dhiyan di

Ludhiana: Ramgarhia Girls College celebrated the festival of lohri dedicated to girl child on the theme of “Lohri Dhiyan Di”. Mrs. Rajinder Kaur, MD, G.S. Radiators was the Chief Guest of the Function. 

Former Principal Dr. Narinder Kaur Sandhu was also present to grace the occasion. Principal and staff members accorded a warm welcome to the chief guest. The campus reverberated with the power-packed beats of dhol and the light of holy bonfire and aroma of peanuts filled the ambience. Students and faculty members were dressed in traditional Punjabi attire, that is, Punjabi juttis, tikkas and phulkaris. The students sang folk songs and danced around the bonfire. Later peanuts and sesame sweets were distributed among all the teachers and students. 

In her address, Principal, Dr Inderjit Kaur, emphasized on the significance of celebrating lohri for girl-child. She averred: “Gone are the days when lohri was celebrated only for the boy-child. The birth of girls is also a matter of celebration as they are the ones who sustain our society. We, at RGC, endeavour to provide them the kind of education that enriches their life and enables them to make their mark in the world.” 

S Ranjodh Singh, President, Ramgarhia Educational Council, said: “We always celebrate lohri for girls to give them the honour that they deserve as we firmly believe in the well-known saying “If we educate a boy, we educate one person. If we educate a girl, we educate a family – and a whole nation and added that it is high time to rise above the discriminatory attitude and give them their due respect then he urged everyone to consider this day as a Fund Raising Day for girls so that more and more money could be collected for various causes for girls.” 

S Gurcharan Singh Lotey, General Secretary, Ramgarhia Educational Council, conveyed his wishes to the students and said: “If we desire to usher in a balanced society, we must enable our girls to take pride in their existence. Education is one such treasure that stays with them for a lifetime and makes them self-reliant.”
