Rana KP Singh pitches for strong ties between India and Canada
Brampton MLA Amarjot Sandhu calls on Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker
Chandigarh: Brampton West MLA (MPP) Mr. Amarjot Sandhu on Tuesday called on Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh and apprised him various issues of NRIs. Notably, Mr. Sandhu is the first Canadian International Student to be elected into the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
Welcoming the MLA, the speaker said that India and Canada have longstanding bilateral relations built upon shared traditions of democracy and pluralism. He further said that Canada is more like a second home to Punjabis and it gives us the immense pleasure to see Punjabis rising in every walk of life in abroad. Mr. Amarjot Sandhu is a live example of Punjabis’ strong presence in Canadian politics, he added.
Pitching for more strong ties, Rana KP Singh said that India and Canada should explore more opportunities of mutual interests for further cementing the relations. Mr. Sandhu also expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Punjab Government for the welfare of NRIs. Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh also felicitated the MLA with mementoes.
Mr. Sandhu was accompanied by Baba Bakala MLA Mr. Santokh Singh Bhalaipur. He also took a tour of the Assembly hall and Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretary Ms. Shashi Lakhanpal Mishra briefed about the history and present composition of the Legislative Assembly.
