Rana Sodhi seeks union government intervention to send back NRIs to their home countries
NRIs Affairs Minister urged Chief Minister to take up issue with Prime Minister in video conferencing scheduled on Saturday
Chandigarh: Punjab NRIs Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi today demanded that Government of India should immediately Intervene in the matter of the NRIs stranded in India due to lockdown and pave way for their home countries as they want to return back their respective countries.
Flagging this issue today in meeting of Council of Ministers through video conferencing, Rana Sodhi also urged the Chief Minister to take up this serious issue vigorously with the Prime Minister in his video conferencing meeting with Chief Ministers of all states scheduled tomorrow.
The Cabinet Minister said that many NRIs had come to their homeland for some time but they stuck up here because the curfew/lockdown imposed as preventive measure to contain the spread of deadly Coronavirus. He said that large number of these NRIs related from Canada, United States of America, England and other countries. He said that the Union Government should help these NRIs and arrange special flights for their safe return by liaisoning with their respective countries so that they can go to their families as soon as possible.
