Rare case of cancer removal from kidney

Ludhiana, February 15, 2019: A technically challenging surgery in a chronic kidney failure patient having stage III Kidney cancer was recently performed at Aykai Hospital, Ludhiana by renowned Urologist & Transplant Surgeon Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh and his team. The female patient was suffering from chronic kidney failure from last 7-8 years and was undergoing regular dialysis. Recently the patient developed passage of blood in the urine. The patient was thoroughly examined in the hospital, investigated and was diagnosed as a case of huge left kidney cancer with spread of tumor to main blood vessels of the body (IVC).
It was a very high risk case to operate as both kidneys were not functioning. Dr. Aulakh took the decision to perform surgery on this high risk case. After getting dialysis don, the patient was operated for successful removal of the cancer from the kidney and blood vessels as well. This removal of cancer from IVC is considered as very technically challenging surgery also keeping in mind the fact that patient was also suffering from kidney failure. The patient is fit to be discharged from hospital now.

Patients who have kidney failure and are undergoing dialysis have high risk of developing kidnwy cancer and they may be warned and educated about importance of screening and imaging. Dr. Navpreet Aulakh, Director Aykai Hospital said that mostly these cancers are asymptomatic and if caught early can be cured fully.
