Chandigarh, June 2, 2024: Reacting to the U-turn of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Surjit Kaur from Jalandhar West, Aam Aadmi Party said that rebel leaders of Akali Dal have pressurized Surjit Kaur, that is why she changed her decision.
Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Jagtar Singh Sanghera said that Shiromani Akali Dal has ceased to exist in Punjab. Now it is not even in a position to field its candidate. He said that Akali Dal people are campaigning that people should not vote for the election symbol of scales and their rebel faction is saying that people should vote for the same election symbol. Worried by this doubt, Bibi Surjit Kaur left the party.
He said that after declaring Surjit Kaur as their candidate, the Akali Dal is telling their people to support the Bahujan Samaj Party. If this was to be done then why did they field a candidate? He said that the Akali Dal itself is responsible for this condition. They cannot blame anyone for this.
