It is high time for the social organizations and government institutions to collectively aware the masses to keep the rivers free from all types of pollution especially the industrial pollution. The industrial units must install water treatment plants so that the polluted industrial waste should not be released in the rivers to check pollution of river waters. The underground water gets polluted once polluted industrial water is released.
In the past, the major source of drinking and irrigation to agriculture sector was from rivers. Even now water from rivers Sutlej and Beas is released to Rajasthan and Haryana through Rajasthan Feeder (Indira Gandhi Canal) from Harieke Head Works. The water of this Canal is used for drinking purpose and irrigation as well in Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana which has really converted the dry areas to fertile ones. It is now the responsibility of ours to ensure that no industrial waste is released into the rivers. The Buddha Nullah in Ludhiana and Kala Sanghia Drain in Jalandhar need immediate cleaning of slush for smooth flow of water. The stagnated polluted water is a threat for the outbreak of number of skin and other diseases.
