Chandigarh, November 20, 2012: State co-ordination committee's meeting for welfare of handicapped held under the Chairmanship of Madan Mohan Mittal Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Punjab.

During the meeting the Minister informed that the Punjab government had provided various facilities to the handicapped to make them independent. To implement section 13 of the act in its true nature, meeting of State co-ordination committee was held after six months.

The minister said that regarding issuing of disability certificates, the department has issued instructions to make the procedure more easier. Facilities like 3% reservation in recruitment & promotion, constructions of ramps, wheelchair, provision of free books & vocation training, provision of jobs in public and private sectors given by the respective departments would be ensured. The Minister also directed the department concerned to provide reports in writing about the work executed by them for the welfare of handicapped and number of beneficiaries covered under various by November 30, 2012.

The Minister said that the publicity regarding preventive measures to be taken at the time of birth of the child would be publicized through TV, Radio, Newspapers, Drama show, Nukar Natak and debates in schools so that people could get the information regarding this.

Prominent amongst other who were present in the meeting included T.R. Sarangal Principal Secretary Social Security Women & Child Development Department, Gurkirat Kirpal Singh Director Social Security Women and Child Development Department, H I S Grewal IAS and officials from the different departments.
