The Department of History, in collaboration with the Srimant Shankardev Chair, Panjab University, today hosted a riveting lecture by esteemed scholar Prof. Dayanand Pathak, Visiting faculty, Panjab University on the commemoration of 576th Birth Anniversary of Srimant Sankardeva.

Chandigarh October 10, 2024: The Department of History, in collaboration with the Srimant Shankardev Chair, Panjab University, today hosted a riveting lecture by esteemed scholar Prof. Dayanand Pathak, Visiting faculty, Panjab University on the commemoration of 576th Birth Anniversary of Srimant Sankardeva. It was held at the Department of History, Panjab University on the topic “Srimant Sankardeva as Great Revolutionary and Social Reformer” the event garnered significant interest from both students and faculty members.


The event commenced with a warm welcome address and introduction of the guests by Dr. Saundarya. Dr. Jasbir Singh, Chairperson of the Department of History formally welcomed the guests and discussed the theme of the lecture. Following this, Professor Yojna Rawat, Coordinator Srimant Sankardeva Chair, addressed the audience setting the stage for an intellectually stimulating discourse. 


The speaker Prof. Dayanand Pathak, a leading authority on the subject matter, delivered an insightful lecture, delving into various aspects of the contemporary society including ethnic diversity, political unrest, social disorder etc. Further, he elucidated the role of Srimant Sankardeva's influence on the society, the pervading fear psychosis, the socio-political and cultural unrest in the region of Assam.


The lecture was followed by an engaging question and answer session, allowing attendees to delve deeper into the complexities of the topic and engage in scholarly discourse. Dr. Ashish Kumar expressed gratitude on behalf of the department.


The event saw an impressive turnout, with over 130 students and teachers in attendance. Special mention was made of distinguished professors present, including Prof. Anju Suri and Prof. Priyatosh Sharma, whose presence added to the academic richness of the occasion.
