The Department of History, in collaboration with the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, hosted a riveting lecture on the theme “Cultural Exchanges in the Ancient World: The Secrets of the Red Sea Port” by esteemed academic, cultural historian and former member of the Auroville Foundation governing board Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Sri Aurobindo Chair, Panjab University.

Chandigarh, October 15, 2024: The Department of History, in collaboration with the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology, hosted a riveting lecture on the theme “Cultural Exchanges in the Ancient World: The Secrets of the Red Sea Port” by esteemed academic, cultural historian and former member of the Auroville Foundation governing board Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Sri Aurobindo Chair, Panjab University. 

Held at Seminar Room, Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, the event garnered significant interest from both students and faculty members.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Saundarya Kumar Deepak, setting the stage for an intellectually stimulating discourse. Prof. Anju Suri honored the guest with a plant as token of gratitude. Following this, Professor Paru Bal Sidhu, Chairperson of the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology, extended a formal welcome and introduction to the distinguished guest. 

Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty delivered an insightful lecture, delving into various aspects of the cultural exchange. He elucidated the role of the Red Sea Port and threw light on various subjects like Berenika, eco-consciousness, Ocean Studies etc.

The lecture was followed by an engaging question and answer session, allowing attendees to delve deeper into the complexities of the topic and engage in scholarly discourse. Ms. Prerna Kaushik expressed gratitude on behalf of the Department of History and the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology.

The event saw an impressive turnout, with over 90 students and teachers in attendance. Special mention was made of distinguished professors present, including Prof. Anju Suri, Prof. Renu Thakur,  Dr. Ashish Kumar, whose presence added to the academic richness of the occasion.
