Rotational irrigation programme announced

Chandigarh, August 24:  The Irrigation Department, Punjab has announced the Rotational Programme for irrigation for the Kharif Season through Canal water from 28-8-2012  to 4-9-2012.

The channels and branches off-taking from Ropar Head Works, the channels of Sirhind Canal System would run on the priority basis from Patiala Feeder, Abohar Branch, Sidhwan Branch, Bathinda Branch and Bist Doab canal respectively.

Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Irrigation Department said that the distributaries and branches of BML, Ghaggar Link and its off-taking channels i.e. Ghaggar Branch and Patiala Minor, in Group ‘B’, being in the first preference, would run to their indent. Balance water supplies available, would be utilized in Direct Distributaries of Group ‘A’.

The spokesman further said that Punjab channels and branches off-taking from Harike and Ferozpur Head Works, Abohar Branch off-taking from Sirhind Feeder and its distributaries, in Group ‘B’ being in first preference, would run to their indent. Balance water supplies available, would be utilised in Direct Distributaries of Sirhind Feeder in Group ‘A’.

The spokesman also said that the in the Upper Bari Doab Canal system, Lahore Branch with its distributaries, being in the first preference, would run to their indent. Balance water supplies available, would be utilized in Main Branch Lower, Sabhroan Branch amd Kasur Branch Lower with their distributaries, respectively.

The spokesman further said that water level of dams would be taken into consideration while implementing rotational programme of canals.
