RS.70 LAKH daylight robbery; 1 arrested

Ludhiana, February 1, 2013: Of the three accused who committed robbery worth about Rs. 70 lakh cash and jewellery at the house of local industrialist Rajesh Jain in the Rishi Nagar Area here this afternoon, one has been arrested by the police within a short time of occurrence of the incident.

Addressing a press conference here this evening, the Ludhiana ADCP Nilambari Jagdale told that the arrested accused had been identified as Rajiv Jain.

Rajiv was the main accused, she said, adding the police had recovered cash and jewellery worth about Rs. 35 lakh from his possession.  

She told that Rajesh Jain was owner of a hosiery factory in the city.

The arrested accused Rajiv was a relative of Rajesh, she said, adding the former had been working in the factory of the latter about two years ago.

She told that Rajiv was aware that Rajesh was a rich person, therefore, he alongwith his two accomplishes made a plan to commit robbery at the house of Rajesh.

Today at around 3 pm, the accused went to the Rajesh’s house.

Rajesh’s wife Sunanda Jain (45), her 17- year- old son and a servant were at the house.

The accused did not have any problem for having their access in the house as Rajiv was known to Sunanda. After their entry, the accused allegedly attacked on Sunanda, her son and servant with daggers and committed robbery of cash and jewellery worth about Rs. 70 lakh.

The accused had arrived on two motorcycles.

All the three injured persons have been rushed to a local private hospital.

On receiving the information, police cordoned the city areas following which Rajiv was arrested this evening. His two accomplices are still to be arrested. Police are toes to arrest them too.
