“Run for Soldiers” Commemorating 75yrs of Independence by Panjab University
The Department of Defence and National Security Studies, Panjab University organized a “Marathon and Walkathon” today as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahostava”
Chandigarh, April 22, 2022: The Department of Defence and National Security Studies, Panjab University organized a “Marathon and Walkathon” today as part of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahostava” to commemorate the 75 years of independence in the university campus. The event was held for the first time in the university post Covid situation. The function was attended by more than 800 participants. The Chairperson of the Department, Dr. Jaskaran Singh Waraich coordinated the event under the patronship of Prof. Raj Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Panjab University.
Major General Rajiv Chhibber, SM, ADG NCC Punjab Haryana and Himachal Pradesh Directorate was the chief guest for the event.The event commenced with the welcome address by the Chairperson. Major General Rajiv Chhibber, SM emphasized on the theme of the marathon i.e.,“Run for Soldiers” and boosted the morale of the participants.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University emphasized on the importance of physical fitness and participation by students in such events that inculcate the spirit of competitiveness and fair play. He further emphasized on the importance of NCC and also assured that it will be made an elective subject in the University curriculum.
The event was also attended by Mr. Vikram Nayar, Registrar of Panjab University, Col. U K Sharma, CO NCC Battalion, Senior faculty from the university, serving army officers and veterans.
NCC Cadets with their respective ANOs and various students from university and colleges participated actively in the event and made it a huge success.
The event was sponsored by Dr. Nishat Turan from Tides Academy, Mr S. Guntash Singh from Guzel by Guntas, Mr Amit Kamboj from White Life Enterprise Pvt. Ltd., Mr Naveen Singh from Visibility Gurus, Advocate Digvijay Singh and Mr. Aman Rana.
The marathon was conducted under various categories i.e 2.5 km, 5 km and 10 km. The age of the participants varied from 12 years to 56 years. All the participants enthusiastically participated in the event. Winners in all categories were given medals and certificates of participation and also the medals of appreciation were given to all the participants who had successfully completed the marathon.
The Vice Chancellor lauded the efforts made by the faculty, students and research scholar of the department in making this event a great success.
