SAD-AAP make Bittu’s win easy
Bittu camp overwhelmed on SAD announcing ticket to Grewal; Shankar-Bhola joining ‘Hand’ weakens Bains base Ludhiana, April 14, 2019: Till a couple of days election scenario of Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency was something like that there can be a triangular fight if Shiromani Akali Dal announces some heavyweight candidate as speculation of fielding Majithia by SAD was strong. In the beginning name of Akali Dal's core committee member and a former minister Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal was mooted but soon the name of ex-MLA and district president of Akali Dal Ranjit Singh Dhilon came to fore but thereafter SAD circles were heard saying that party want to field a heavyweight from this constituency and as such name of ex-Minister Bikram Singh Majithia circled in election air but finally the party announced its ticket in favour of Grewal. Though Grewal being well-educated and seasoned politician has all respect among Akali leaders, he hardly enjoys full-support of workers. This is the reason that Bittu's supporters are overwhelmed on his candidature. On the other hand till yesterday Bittu was seeing LIP supremo and PDA candidate Simarjit Singh Bains as his main contender but yesterday the scenario has changed. A couple of days ago his closest aide and ex-councillor Gurpreet Singh Khurana left the Lok Insaaf Party and joined Congress. Today spokesperson of Aam Admi Party Darshan Singh Shankar and its District President Daljit Singh Bhola, who was at one time a close aide of Bains, have joined Congress. This has made Bittu's win easy. But as AAP is yet to announce its candidate and SAD candidate Grewal is yet to start his election campaign, it will be too early to predict about the results but it is clear that contest on Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat is triangular now. If Bittu retains this seat, which he won with a margin of more than 19 thousand votes in 2014 election, he will make hat-trick. If Simarjit Bains wins then he will have a strong opposition voice in parliament raising Ludhiana issues. If Grewal succeeds, he will definitely get a berth in cabinet if BJP wins majority at the Centre once again. Though nobody can make any prediction about win of a particular candidate, but it is sure that 'No If No But, only Jatt' as all the three contestants belong to the same Jatt community.
