Chandigarh, January 25, 2023: Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility Panjab University has received a grant to procure a new state of art X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). This new addition will boost the research in the region. Looking at the performance of this centre, the Department of Science and Technology, GoI, New Delhi has sanctioned an amount of Rs.5 crores. The instrument will be used to analyze inorganic compounds, semiconductors, metals, alloys, nanomaterials, photovoltaics, polymers, elements, medical implants, bio-materials, ion-modified materials, catalysts, glasses, ceramics, paints, papers, inks, woods, plant parts, bones etc
Prof. G R Chaudhary, Director of SAIF/CIL/UCIM facility stated that SAIF Chandigarh is one of the topmost performer among sixteen SAIF centres in the country as far as number of samples analysed is concerned. The centre serves more than 5000 researchers analyzing more than 25000 samples per year. This is the unique facility having more than 25 state-of-art analytical instruments under one roof. These facilities are being utilized by researchers and industries across the India. In the last year the centre received a grant of Rs.1.5 crores to procure XRD facility. Further to it, BET Analyser, Zeta Potential, High Temperature TGA/DTA/DSC and Polarimeter, Spectrometer Elipsometer have recently been added in the SAIF facility and CD, Polarimeter and UV Spectrometer are in the process of procurement out of another grant of Rs. 2.60 crores. SAIF also received Rs. 2.5 crores sanctioned by DST for another prestigious training program STUTI (Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure). In less than one year of duration the department has trained 1686 school students in 16 awareness programs and more than 700 researchers from 250Plus institutes covering 27 states in training programs on analytical instrumentation.
