SALES TAX Department raids Janta Express

Ferozepur, February 9, 2013: The transporting of goods without bills in the railways goods compartment without bill has become a regular feature and the connivance of railway officials cannot be ruled out. 

In the second such raid on Janta Express, 145 bundles of goods without bill were seized by the Excise and Taxation Department by Ravinder Singh Sandhu, AETC of Bathinda Wing along with his team of APO Kokhar and three Inspectors.

Captain Y. S. Mata, ETC informed that a secret message was received that in Ferozepur-Mumbai Janta Express, a huge consignment of goods without bill from other states comes and working on this intimation, the department raided at the railway station on arrival of the train and recovered 145 bundles without billing.  All these bundles were taken into custody and after physical verification further action to put a fine would be taken. 

It is pertinent to mention that the connivance of the railway staff cannot be ruled out and earlier also the Sales Tax Department has proposed to set-up Sales Tax Check-up Posts at the railway station but no action has so far been initiated in this regard.
