Sanitary pads distribution under UDAAN Scheme
The Punjab government on the occasion of International Menstrual Hygiene Day i.e. 28th May, 2021 launched a scheme to provide free sanitary napkins to needy girls and women across the state.
Ferozepur, May 23, 2022: The Punjab government on the occasion of International Menstrual Hygiene Day i.e. 28th May, 2021 launched a scheme to provide free sanitary napkins to needy girls and women across the state.
The new scheme would cover school drop-outs, out-of-school girls, young women not attending college, women from BPL families, homeless women, residents of slum areas, and those who are not availing free or subsidised sanitary pads under any scheme of other departments,
A maximum of nine pads would be given to each beneficiary per month.
The purpose of the scheme is to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene, improve accessibility to basic products, promote better standard of living.The women-oriented scheme was aimed at improving the quality of life, enhance their self-esteem and ensure safe disposal of sanitary pads.
Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Amrit Singh, today sanitary pads were distributed to approximate 100 beneficiaries by Rattandeep Sandhu, District Programme Officer Ferozepur in Chetna Hall, Ferozepur Cantt.
Giving information about scheme , District Programme Officer said that, the sanitary pads will be given to the eligible beneficiaries through the Anganwari Workers across the district. The purpose is to encourage every woman to use sanitary pads during periods so as to avoid related health problems.
