Jalandhar, December 6, 3028: A memorable evening program marking the 80th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Babir Singh, former Member Parliament, former Cabinet Minister, Punjab and former President of College Governing Council, saw an impressive gathering of old students in the campus of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar.
Mr.Sukhi Bath, Founder, Sukhi Bath Foundation, Surrey, Canada was the special chief guest on this momentous occasion. The president of the College Governing Council, Sardarni Balbir Kaur and College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra warmly welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. The president of the College Governing Council Sardarni Balbir Kaur welcomed all the guests and said that the institution has always been proud of its alumnus who have carried the values and ethos imbibed in by the college. Speaking on the occasion, College Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra said that the institution owed a lot to the visionary guidance of Sardar Balbir Singh for its current status and also mentioned the fact that Lyallpur Khalsa College is the only institution in North India with a Governing Council mostly comprising of its old students. He also lauded the noteworthy contribution of the former students for the college's recognition on National as well as International level. In his address, Chief Guest Mr. Sukhi Bath expressed his happiness on the elevated status enjoyed by the institution and also appreciated the college's immense contribution to Punjab, Punjabi language and Punjabi Culture.
On this occasion, Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra also put forth a proposal to Mr. Baath regarding the establishment of an overseas branch of the college in Surrey, Canada under wings of the chief guest. Mr. Bath welcomed this initiative and assured that work on the same shall commence as soon as the next year and also suggested the same project and its expansion on other global locations.
This was followed by an impressive cultural program by the former students of the college, now serving the institution as staff members in various departments, namely Prof. Gurjeet Singh Khosa, Miss Monia, Prof. Sukhdev Singh, Prof. Gurjinder Kaur, Prof. Amandeep Kang, Prof. Palwinder Singh through presentations such as Songs, Ghazals, Skit, Qawali, Bhangra, Group Dance and Poetry recitation whilst also reliving their college experiences from the past. The stage on this occasion was conducted by Prof. Gopal Singh Buttar. Among distinguished people present were S. Jaspal Singh Waraich, Joint Secretary, Jagdeep Singh Shergill (Member Governing Council), S. Swaran Singh Cheema along with the staff members and other acquaintances of the college. Prof. Sanjeev Anand, Coordinator of the Alumni Association, formally thanked the assembled guests.
