SatCom Industry Association (SIA) signs MoU to expedite launching of ‘LPU Satellite’
LPU Satellite’ would be designed for edutech and related activities
Jalandhar, May 28, 2022: Created to represent the interests of the communication satellite ecosystem in the country; SatCom Industry Association (SIA)-India has signed an MoU with Lovely Professional University to facilitate launching of the university's own ‘LPU Satellite’. The suggested satellite would be designed for edutech and related activities to help the other needy agencies of the country, as well.
The MOU between SIA-India and LPU was signed by Director General of SIA-India Shri Anil Prakash and LPU’s Executive Dean and Registrar Prof Dr Monica Gulati. The association has vouchsafed to assist and guide LPU to realize its ambition to launch a satellite. Creating a significant moment in the Academia-Industry connect, the objective here will be to guide prospective entrepreneurs on product knowledge; and, technical/sales/service skills for various products and services in the space sector.
In this regard, SIA-India and LPU will organize joint workshops, seminars, and training courses to stimulate and assist in the development of an efficient and sustainable Industry. This is expected to make way for cooperation and exchange of information to students, experts, and other resource persons. It will be for the academic, research, training and allied purposes in the satellite and space sector.
Creating a significant moment in the Academia-Industry connect, the MoU is to guide prospective entrepreneurs on product knowledge and various skills in the space sector. The signing ceremony was also witnessed by President SIA-India Dr Subba Rao Pavuluri; and, LPU’s Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Lovi Raj Gupta.
Dr Pavuluri shared that this collaboration will be a good starting point for the up-gradation of ‘Centre for Space Research and Operations’ at LPU. Prof Dr LR Gupta held that the role of academic institutions is very crucial in creating skilled manpower and the development of space infrastructure in India. LPU is thriving to become a nodal centre and role model for space missions and research.
As the apex body for the satellite communications ecosystem, SIA-India aims to present the industry's interest to the highest Government levels for policy-making and regulatory and licensing matters. LPU has established a ‘Centre for Space Research and Operations’ as a central facility to conduct advanced space related studies. It facilitates the budding technocrats/ researchers to pursue activities related to space science, technologies and applications for communication with satellites, download live satellite images, and receive telemetry, science/engineering data from nano-satellites & larger spacecraft.
