School of Law, CT University organized 2nd Prof. (Dr.) Basant K. Sharma Memorial National Moot Court Competition
Total 30 teams from all over India participated in the competition.
Ludhiana, December 16, 2022: School of Law, CT University virtually organized 2nd Prof. (Dr.) Basant K. Sharma Memorial National Moot Court Competition. Total 30 teams from all over India participated in the competition. The competition was organized in the memory of (Late) Prof. Dr. Basant K. Sharma, an illuminary and authority in the Family Law arena. The theme of the Moot Competition and proposition was based on Criminal Law matter.
The session was inaugurated by the esteemed presence of revered guests Prof. (Dr.) Vinay Kapoor founder VC Dr. Ambedkar National Law University, Prof. Dr Tarun Arora Dean school of Legal studies, dept. of Law Central University of Punjab, Dr Kamaljeet Singh, Vice Chancellor Madhusudan Law University, Cuttack, Major Nupur Gupta Dean IMS Law college Noida and Dr. Satish Kumar, Vice Chancellor, CT University on this occasion.
While welcoming the participants and guests, Dr Kamaljeet Singh and Prof. Dr.Tarun Arora spoke about the association of Panjab University with (Late) Dr. Basant K. Sharma while highlighting his contribution towards the legal field and society. Major Nupur Gupta guided all the teams and the students about the importance of mooting for budding lawyers. She emphasized on providing students of law an opportunity to test their skills for professional competence and how the authenticity of black coats be kept in society and the jurisprudential system.
The National Moot Competition was concluded with a Finale between the two best teams out of 30 teams. Team from Guru Gobind Singh IP University, Delhi which included Ishikaa Sethi, Payas virmani and Toyesh bhardwaj was felicitated with the Winners’ Trophy and the team from School of Law Dr Ambedkar Law University, Tamil Nadu which included Amrutha Dev, Surya and Donna Gadiel, won the Runners-Up Trophy. Team from Guru Gobind Singh IP University, Delhi won the best memorial.
Mr Deepinder Singh Gill, Mr. Dhanmohan and Prof. Raj Sandhu chaired the final round and the valedictory ceremony was chaired by Hon’ble Justice Mr. Ajai Tyagi apprised the participants with the working of courts and shared his valuable experience and spoke about the importance of learning through Moot Court competitions. “While winning an event motivates, losing disheartens but gives an opportunity to participants to learn from defeat.” He further advised students to shun baser instincts and to inculcate sublime values of compassion and empathy to be successful in their lives. He also emphasized on the importance of the ‘emotional quotient’.
At the end Hon’ble Justice Mr. Ajai Tyagi, congratulated the Principal of School of Laws, CT University, Dr. Simranjeet K. Gill and Core team including Dr. Divya S. Khurana and Ms. Aishwarya Aneja with all faculty members and students. He encouraged the students to be a part of the socio political system.
Dr. Satish Kumar, Vice Chancellor (Off.), CTU said “Moot court has always been a flyover between law students and conceptually practical knowledge of facts and issues under the blue of legal framework.” He congratulated the whole team.
