School of Punjabi Studies at PU hosted fourth Alumni Meet
The School of Punjabi Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, hosted the fourth Alumni Meet. The event saw the department honour two distinguished personalities: Dr. Nahar Singh, the renowned folklorist and former professor of the Punjabi Department, and Surinder Gill, the celebrated Punjabi poet.
Chandigarh, December 20, 2024: The School of Punjabi Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, hosted the fourth Alumni Meet. The event saw the department honour two distinguished personalities: Dr. Nahar Singh, the renowned folklorist and former professor of the Punjabi Department, and Surinder Gill, the celebrated Punjabi poet.
The program began with an insightful overview of the event by Professor Dr. Uma Sethi. Professor Sarabjit Singh warmly welcomed the esteemed guests attending the Alumni Meet. The introductions of the honorees were conducted by Professor Yog Raj Angrish and Professor Sarabjit Singh. Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu read the citation for Dr. Nahar Singh, while the citation for poet Surinder Gill was read by Professor Akwinder Kaur Tanvi.
Dr. Surinder Gill captivated the audience by sharing his life experiences with the students in a compelling and engaging manner. In addition, students from the Punjabi Department presented a series of poems and songs, showcasing their talent.
The event was graced by the presence of faculty members from various colleges, including Dr. Neeraj, Dr. Bhupinder Kaur, Dr. Meenakshi Rathore, Dr. Jitender Kaur, Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Dr. Harvinder Kaur, Dr. Gurmel Singh, poet Surjeet Jajj, and Dr. Chetna.
The honored guests were presented with mementos as a token of appreciation. In closing, Dr. Yog Raj Angrish expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished guests for their valuable participation in the event.
