Screening of the Movie ‘Mrs.’ in the Centre for Human Rights and Duties to Celebrate International Women’s Day
The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh, commemorated International Women’s Day in collaboration with Panjab Feminist Union of Students by screening a movie ‘Mrs.’.

Chandigarh, March 6, 2025: The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh, commemorated International Women’s Day in collaboration with Panjab Feminist Union of Students by screening a movie ‘Mrs.’.
Prof Namita Gupta, Chairperson of the Centre stated that the International Women’s Day is a call for action to accelerate progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The movie ‘Mrs.’ encourages viewers to reflect on their own relationships, identities and choices, making it a relatable and thought- provoking watch. She also shared that the movie is showcased by the movie club ‘Haqooq’ run by the Centre where movies on social issues are screened every Wednesday in the seminar hall of the Centre. The movie follows the story of a young woman, Richa who feels suffocated by her life and societal expectations placed upon her. Later on, she begins to question her identity and the choices she’s made, leading to a journey of self-discovery.
Prof Jayanti Dutta, Director, UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, Panjab University after watching the movie appreciated the efforts of the Centre and stated that such movie clubs are significant to develop critical thinking among the viewers.
Mrs. is a powerful commentary on the societal norms that constrain women’s lives. The screening of movie was witnessed with vibrant participants from various departments of Panjab University. The screening was followed by the discussions among the viewers on the themes of identity, relationships and personal growth.
