SCREW TIGHTENED: Illegal Mining- 29 FIRs in 3 days

Chandigarh, October 27, 2012: Anil Joshi, Industries and Commerce Minister, Punjab informed that the State of Punjab has initiated stringent measures to contain illegal mining out of quarries. The Minister informed that Mining Officers have been directed to initiate immediate legal action against all offenders.

He said that during the past 3 days 29 F.I.R’s have been lodged in the various Districts of Punjab. The district-wise details are: Amritsar (7), Pathankot (4), Ferozepur (2), Hoshiarpur (1), Ludhiana (8), Moga (2), Ropar (3) and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (2). The Minister said that strict action shall continue against illegal mining and asked the public that they may lodge their complaints in this regard with the General Manager-cum-Mining Officer of the concerned district.

The Minister further informed that Department is actively pursuing the case with Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India for obtaining Environmental Clearance in respect of 95 Category-A mining projects, which shall enable the State to auction these quarries .
