SDM Banga exhorts farmers for direct seeding of rice to save groundwater
Urging the peasantry that it is now high time to save groundwater by adopting direct seeding of the rice (DSR), Banga Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Navneet Kaur Bal on Tuesday exhorted the farmers switch to DSR instead of traditional transplantation of paddy.
Banga (Nawanshahr), May 24, 2022: Urging the peasantry that it is now high time to save groundwater by adopting direct seeding of the rice (DSR), Banga Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Navneet Kaur Bal on Tuesday exhorted the farmers switch to DSR instead of traditional transplantation of paddy.
SDM Banga Navneet Kaur Bal along with the officials of Agriculture Department visited Kangraur village where a farmer Darbara Singh used DSR technique on his 12-acre land.
Appreciating Darbara Singh, SDM asked others to come forward and adopt invention which would slash their cost on labour and water. She said that Punjab Government has been offering bonus of Rs 1500 per acre for adopting DSR and farmers should take full advantage of the program.
She said that farmers can save water up to 20 to 25 percent through DSR technique and can get high yield of the crop.
Bal said that agriculture department is constantly in touch with the farmers and holding awareness camps daily to promote DSR technique.
Agriculture Development Officer Sukhjinder Pal said that in Banga, eight teams have been formed to verify the records of farmers adopted DSR to directly transfer the bonus into their accounts.
