Sehgal seeks formation of “General Category Commission” in Punjab
Writes a letter to Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi
Jalandhar, December 11, 2021: PPCC (Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee) RTI Cell senior vice chairman Sanjay Sehgal has written to Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi with regard to long - pending demand of General Category for seeking formation of a “General Category Commission” to address the grievances of the General Category.
The letter reads as under: “There are total 83 General Category Assembly Seats in Punjab. But MLAs from General Category in Punjab Assembly never raised issued in Punjab Vidhan Sabha to constitute a “General Category Commission”. Yesterday Himachal Chief Minister has also announced formation of a Commission to address the grievances of the general category. Similar Commission is already setup in Madhya Pardesh and Bihar State.
General Category have decided to Vote for Congress only if government will issue notification and Constitute “General Category Commission” before Election Code of Conduct. General Category is the largest population in the state and still awaiting for their rights. General Category will start demonstration in all assembly constituencies if such decision is not taken by the government. A Scheduled Caste & Miniorities Commission is already in operation in Punjab.”
Sehgal further wrote to CM that the government on priority basis should provide justice to all sections of the society. The government should also chalked out action plan for the welfare and healthcare. He added that in Punjab, according to the 2011 census, more than 68.1% population belongs to the General Category making it the majority vote bank to form any government.
He hoped that CM will come forward and accept the demand of General Category.
